818 Lexington Avenue

This house has a unique history. It was designed by the noted architect A. J. Davis in the Italianate style as a two storey residence for the prominent Greensboro businessman/banker Jesse Lindsay and was built in 1859 at the corner of North Elm and Bellemeade Streets. In 1916 it was moved two blocks south to allow for the building of Hotel O\'Henry. Two years later, in 1918, it was disassembled board by board to be relocated elsewhere. The second story was re-erected at this location as it stands today. The first floor was rebuilt on West Market Street. It has unusual features, like floor joists made of chestnut measuring 3\" by 12\" by18\', wide width heart pine floors, tall ceilings, arched door and window detailing, original Italian carved marble mantelpiece, plaster walls, etc. It has been lovingly and meticulously renovated, bringing it to modern times complete with all creature comforts without sacrificing its historical character.
