| The March
of Dimes is fortunate to have a special group of parents that are
dedicated to help families have healthier babies. This group is known
as the National Capital Area Chapter March of Dimes Preemie Posse.
All of our families have benefited from March of Dimes research
and programs which include:
- Folic acid education and outreach
- Early and adequate prenatal care
- Newborn screening (including PKU) and birth defects surveillance
- Birth defects research and treatments
- Neonatal Intensive Care Unit foundations and development regarding
the improvement of pregnancy outcomes
- Research regarding the prevention of preterm labor
These families help us to improve educational strategies for prevention
and also support our fundraising and communications efforts for
the Chapter.
You can find out more about our families and how to get involved
by going to Get Involved
on this site.
The Preemie Posse was started by Jocelyn Lambert Davidson and her
family as a WalkAmerica team for parents of premature infants. The
WalkAmerica team is actually open to anyone who wants to raise money
for healthier babies and walk with the Preemie Posse. Over the last
two years, the Posse team has raised $14,000 for healthier babies.
