Meet Sean

Sean Bugg | Northern Virginia & DC Real Estate Agent

A Kentucky native, Sean Bugg relocated to the Mid-Atlantic to attend Washington and Lee University and has since built deep roots in Northern Virginia and Washington, DC real estate markets. Based in Falls Church since 2004, Sean brings hyper-local knowledge of neighborhoods, housing trends, and community dynamics across Arlington, Alexandria, Falls Church, and the greater DC metro area.

With a professional background spanning decades as a journalist and writer covering the Washington region, Sean transitioned into real estate in 2016. His expertise in local market insights, storytelling, and data-driven analysis quickly translated into success, earning him recognition as a Northern Virginia Top Producing Realtor. He works with a wide range of clients, including first-time homebuyers, sellers, downsizing retirees, real estate investors, landlords, and international buyers seeking property in Northern Virginia and Washington, DC.

Sean is an active leader within the Northern Virginia Association of Realtors (NVAR). A graduate of the 2019 NVAR Leadership Institute, he served four years on the Grievance Committee, including roles as Vice Chair and Chair (2023, 2025), overseeing ethics and compliance in the industry. He currently serves on the NVAR Public Policy Committee, advocating for homeowner rights, housing policy, and real estate legislation at the local and state level.

Before real estate, Sean built a nationally recognized career in media and LGBTQ journalism. As editor and later co-publisher of Metro Weekly, Washington’s leading LGBTQ newsmagazine, he expanded the publication into a widely respected digital news platform. His work has been honored by the National Lesbian and Gay Journalists Association (NLGJA), and the publication received a GLAAD Media Award.

Sean has long been committed to community service and advocacy. He has worked with organizations including Whitman-Walker Health and the National Alliance of State and Territorial AIDS Directors, and has served on multiple nonprofit boards. In recognition of his contributions, he was named a Capital Pride Hero and has received numerous community service awards across the Washington, DC region.

Outside of real estate, Sean is an avid writer, baker, and collector. In 2025, he reissued his essay collection Boy Does World: 15 Years of Bad Behaviors, Bad Attitudes, and Happy Endings. He volunteers with Cake4Kids, baking for underserved youth, restores antique typewriters, and continues working through an ever-growing reading list.

Sean lives in Falls Church, Virginia with his husband and their dog, Hiro. Their home has been a center of family life, including raising their nephew, and reflects Sean’s deep commitment to community, homeownership, and the Northern Virginia lifestyle.
