Sean Bugg | Northern Virginia & DC Real Estate Agent
A Kentucky native, Sean Bugg came to southwestern Virginia to attend Washington and Lee University. After graduating, he made his home in Northern Virginia and Washington, D.C., and has happily remained there ever since.
With decades of experience as a journalist covering the Washington area, Sean obtained his real estate license in 2016, turning his expertise in local markets and neighborhoods into valuable assests for his clients. A Northern Virginia Top Producer, he has worked with first-time homebuyers, downsizing retirees, local landlords, and international investors.
After graduating the Northern Virginia Association of Realtors (NVAR) 2019 Leadership Institute, Sean went on to serve for four years on the organization’s Grievance Committee, reviewing industry ethics and compliance issues. He currently serves on the NVAR Public Policy committee, helping to ensure our area homeowners are heard in our local and state governments.
Soon after moving to the District, Sean became involved in HIV activism and prevention, working for the Whitman-Walker Clinic and the National Alliance of State and Territorial AIDS Directors. In 2001, he left behind public health to take the helm of Metro Weekly, Washington’s LGBTQ newsmagazine. He grew the publication from a small arts and entertainment magazine into a nationally recognized online source for breaking news.
His writing was regularly honored by the National Lesbian and Gay Journalists Association (NLGJA) and the magazine received a coveted GLAAD Media Award. In 2008, he was named a Capital Pride Hero by the Capital Pride Association, an award that annually recognizes LGBTQ people who have made great contributions to the community. He has also received community service awards from the Gay and Lesbian Activists Alliance, GayLaw, D.C. Different Drummers, and the Asian/Pacific Islander LGBTQ Pride celebration. He served on the boards of the Capital Area Gay and Lesbian Chamber of Commerce, the D.C. chapter of NLGJA, and the Capital Tennis Association.
An avid baker, Sean volunteers with Cake4Kids, an organization that provides celebration cakes for at-risk and underserved youth. He still writes and in 2025 re-issued a new e-book edition of his collection of columns and essays, Boy Does World: 15 Years of Bad Behaviors, Bad Attitudes, and Happy Endings. When he has time left over, he refurbishes antique typewriters and whittles away at his enormous collection of
to-be-read books.
Since 2004, Sean has lived in Falls Church with his husband, where they raised their nephew and their dog, Hiro.

Client Testimonials:
"Sean is the REALTOR® everybody hopes to find -- he's professional and knowledgable, but also somebody who becomes personally invested in your search. He is the definition of a team-mate who is both patient and understanding through a process that can often be challenging, time-consuming, and scary (especially to a young, first-time home buyer like myself.) I also appreciated Sean's willingness to acknowledge facts or questions he didn't have an answer to and would work tirelessly to get the info from the seller's agent or do the research for me. When we did finally find the perfect property for me and entered the active contract phase, he seemed to appreciate the fact I took plenty of time to review everything in detail -- even if it meant I'd find something that would be cause to cancel the contract -- and never made me feel like I should rush or assume everything was okay. Beyond that, Sean is the rare realtor who is able to be attentive and encouraging, without being high-pressure. I never once felt like he was trying to talk me into a property that wasn't an absolute perfect fit based on what I told him were my must-haves before making an offer. If anything, I deeply respected his willingness to give his honest and professional thoughts on the downsides of any given property we viewed instead of obscuring the possible downsides in hopes I'd miss them and move forward with making an offer. At the end of the process, I have both a new friend and somebody I'd happily recommend to anybody looking for a realtor in the DC area." - Sarah B.
"Sean was my agent during my first time buying property. I knew I would be in good hands since we had known each other for several years before this interaction, but I know even without any prior relationship he is an excellent agent and a great person to work with! Most importantly he was very patient with me. As a first-time homebuyer, I had LOADS of questions, and not just questions about wanting to see properties (though there was plenty of that as well). Sean made sure to answer each one, and when I "bugg"ed him again via a different medium because he didn't answer one, he would quickly address my questions and entertain any thoughts, from neighborhoods, pricing, features, securing open houses, you name it. Sean has lived in DC and the DC area for many years, for as long as I've known him, so he definitely knows the neighborhoods and what the market is like. Homebuying is stressful, and while I won't say my process was stress-free, working with Sean made the process more enjoyable. Whenever we were working together I really felt that he was making me his focus, and I know he brings this personalized treatment to each client. I will definitely work with him again for any other home-related needs!" -Michael S.
"Sean was always very accommodating, respectful and professional to both owner and seller. Highest recommendation to Sean! Nothing but praises for him as he sold our condo in 5 days." -Kay N.
"Sean is the BEST!! He's so easy to work with. If you want a hard working, nice guy for your real estate needs...look no further than Sean." -Doug C.
